MBA Subject List

Marketing Management

This subject is designed to make students familiar with the range of decisions in strategic marketing management and planning and to develop skills in using a variety of analytical framework for making decision. It is also expected to develop the students’ skills in planning a variety of marketing management tools, ranging from new product entry strategy to international market product life cycle management and strategy.

International Business

This subject discusses the overall global environment impacting on businesses and the strategies used by companies around the globe in encountering the situation and dynamic changes faced. Discussion also includes topics like industry analysis, strategy formulation, and strategy implementation.

Managerial Economics

This subject is designed to enable students to understand a range of models and concepts for analysis of business activity and decision making pertaining to the operations of market economy. The subject provides understanding of both microeconomics and macroeconomics environment which affect business decision making by managers.

Accounting and Finance for Managers

This subject is a combined module on basic topics in Management Accounting and Corporate Finance. It seeks to expose students to the functions and principles accounting and finance and their applications in managerial decisions. It focuses on understanding basic but major issues related to concepts, theories, techniques and practical problems of management accounting and corporate finance – from entrepreneurial perspective. Topics include costing and cost control, budgeting, short term financial decision making, financial markets, financial statement analysis, financial planning and forecasting, concepts and application of risk and return and time value of money in assets valuation and capital budgeting.

Managing People in Organisations

This subject aims to enhance students’ understanding of the context and the dynamics of running a business organization in the current global, competitive and changing environment. It seeks to address organizational management issues and roles managers and entrepreneurs should play. The focus is to understand the dynamics of organizational functioning and comprehend the impacts it has on organizational behaviour, corporate culture, psychology of its people and how best these should be managed to derive desired synergy.

Strategic Management – Asian Business

This subject discusses the overall global business environment (macro level) and factors impacting on competition and strategies used by companies around the globe to cope with the situation especially in the context of doing business in Asia and the Pacific Region. It is specifically focused on the analysis of internal and external environmental factors and how these factors influence the analysis, formulation, development, adoption and execution of strategies to maintain competitive advantage especially those doing business in Asian countries. Discussion also includes topics such as industry analysis, strategy formulation, and strategy implementation with specific reference to managing business operations in Asian countries.

Supply Chain Management

The objective of this subject is to develop an understanding of key drivers of supply chain performance and their inter-relationships with strategy and other functions of the company such as marketing, manufacturing and accounting. The subject covers the major issues in SCM, including definition of a supply chain, role of inventory, advanced production-inventory models, supply contracts, bullwhip effect and information sharing, vendor-managed inventories and other distribution strategies, third-party logistics providers, managing product variety, information technology, SCM and international business.

Project Management

Objectives of this subject is to provide the student with greater understanding of analytical skills for solving problems in project management, to learn mathematical models which aid in decision making process and to develop critical thinking and knowledge in project management’s theory and practices. Student also will learn how to use software packages in project management practices.

Business Statics

This subject seeks to expose students to statistical knowledge which can aid managers solve real business problems. It focuses on gathering and processing of data, analysis and interpretation of information on problems related to businesses, industries, employees and consumers. Students will learn the concepts, how to apply techniques to collect and process data and interpret results of statistical analysis.

Business Informatics

This course aims to provide students with a broader knowledge and management background on ICT for business organizations and society. Topics are designed to assist students developing a concrete knowledge foundation in ICT, state-of-the-art methods and supporting technologies as well as to demonstrate to learners the applicability of ICT in daily management activities. The course will also cover some concepts, framework on ICT management that is currently available in the industry.

Small Business Management

This is a study of the special circumstances surrounding starting and operating a small business. Specific attention is given to understanding the uniqueness of the small business owner. It covers entrepreneurial vision, personality, marketing, accounting, financial, planning, legal and tax issues, franchising and management.

Project Paper

All participants upon successfully completing all subjects are required to use all the knowledge gained and submit a research proposal which after approval will enable them to write a dissertation. The dissertation will be up to 10,000 words and equivalent to two subjects. It is expected to be completed within a maximum period of three months. A supervisor will be assigned to each candidate depending on the area selected.

Quality and Change Management

In the midst of uncertainty in today’s business environment, organizations are continuously implementing change that would yield benefits. Companies have to learn how to change and sustain change in their organizations as part of a continuous process of improvement, renewal and transformation. In recent years, many companies began introducing new initiatives in areas such as Total Quality, Business Process Re-engineering (BPR) and Continuous Improvement in bringing about change in order to provide product or service and business performance.
